TAICHI-ING (2025)

Short Film     Comedy / Drama

Returning to Hong Kong during COVID, a Grandson must isolate with his cheery nuisance of a Grandfather.

The goal

Having lived away from Hong Kong for a few years, I wanted to explore my growing detachment to the place that I call home.

After my actual grandfather said yes to starring in the film, I shaped the script around him—many moments feeling almost autobiographical.

the process

A quiet, still frame became a key feature of the visual language to bring about that sense of distance the protagonist feels to his home.

Compared to my more comedic work, directing this project focused a lot on blocking the subjects in relation to the cramped warehouse space, aiming to make meaning through shot size and angle.

the result

Along with my latest short film GONG GONG (2026), we are aiming for a festival run in mid 2026 into 2027.
