Michael Yu is a writer/director specialising in comedy, drama and action. He works across Film, TV, Commercial and Music Video.  

Based in Los Angeles, Michael is originally from Hong Kong. With family spread across Hong Kong, the US, and the UK, his work often looks at the tension between Asia and the West. 

His work has won awards at the 48 Hour Film Project, Covellite International Film Festival and screened at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. He was a juror at the 48th Asian American International Film Festival.

Outside of his writer/director career, Michael worked for an independent studio from former HBO executives. There, he focused on English-language film/TV content set in Asia but with global appeal. 

Michael received his BA from Claremont McKenna College and spent time at UC Berkeley. He plays soccer, ultimate frisbee, and serves on the Claremont Entertainment alumni organisation. 

Currently, he is in post production for GONG GONG, a Kung Fu action comedy short film, whilst writing a new crime comedy feature.
